Activities
Enjoy a traditional day in the Areco countryside. During the day you will be able to attend a folk music and dance spectacle, where you can join in the dancing and singing or marvel at the gaucho skills on display. You will also be entertained by traditional rural games such as “Taba” and “Bochas”.
It goes without saying that you will be invited to savour the famous Argentine “Asado” at noon and then “pastelitos” at tea time.
It is well known that Argentine meats are among the best in the world. You therefore cannot miss the luxury of a typical “asado” (barbeque) prepared by Areco´s finest cooks. Enjoy “asado” on the grill or on the cross, always accompanied by “chorizo” (sausage), “morcilla” (black pudding) and a variety of salads.
When was the last time you got on a horse? We offer you the opportunity to saddle up again or ride for the first time. There´s no better way to see San Antonio de Areco and the beautiful surrounding landscape of the Pampas.
Explore the town´s narrow lanes and grand old houses in an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage. Visit the banks of the River Areco, the Old Bridge, the Main Square, the Parochial Church and the Chocolate factory. You will be able to stop off en route for a drink in an old “pulpería” and to visit the workshop of a ceramics craftsman.
Golf enthusiasts will enjoy San Antonio de Areco´s Country Club with its excellent 9-hole course. After an afternoon of golf, relax over a “picada” in the Club House, looking out over the runways.
Whether you would like to play a match or simply watch some polo, the Country Club has 2 fields where excellent matches are played frequently with horses bred locally by well known “peticeros”.
Discover the soul of San Antonio de Areco by going on a bar and “pulpería” crawl. You will be transported to the past as you enjoy tasty “picadas” and local drinks in the town´s old fashioned drinking holes. Antiques can be purchased in some of the bars. Don´t forget your camera.
Among the many attractions that San Antonio de Areco offers, the workshops of the silversmiths, ceramists, saddlers and craftsmen stand out. Observe silversmiths and craftsmen at work in their ateliers, which are open to the public and often have unique pieces for sale.
Everything you need to know about the Argentine gaucho can be learnt by visiting Areco´s museums. We highly recommend the Ricardo Güiraldes Museum, the Usina Vieja Cultural Center, the Atelier Dragui Museum and the Atelier Gasparini Museum.
